About This Piano
Built in New York in 1920, this Steinway Model M is the 5′7″ living room grand Steinway has long called the perfect home piano: big enough for a full, singing tone, compact enough for a living room.
When this Model M left Steinway’s New York factory in 1920, Woodrow Wilson was in the final year of his presidency. In January, Prohibition took effect nationwide; in August the 19th Amendment gave American women the vote; and that November Pittsburgh’s KDKA reported Warren G. Harding’s election victory in one of the first commercial radio broadcasts. The same year the League of Nations held its first meetings, Band-Aid adhesive bandages debuted, Qantas was founded in Australia, and Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R. gave the world the word “robot.” In music, Ravel finished La Valse, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella premiered in Paris, and Holst’s The Planets received its first complete public performance in London.
The case has been beautifully refinished in a satin hand-rubbed lacquer ebony finish, and the restoration was completed in our shop by Registered Piano Technician Trevor Nelson.
