About This Piano
Built in New York in 1925, this Steinway Model M is Steinway’s classic 5′7″ Living Room Grand: enough scale for a full, singing tone, compact enough for a living room.
When serial 231059 left the factory, Calvin Coolidge was president — and his March inauguration was the first ever broadcast on radio. Chrysler Corporation was founded that June, The New Yorker published its first issue, and inventors were demonstrating early mechanical television. The Charleston was the dance of the decade, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby appeared that spring, and the Scopes trial in Dayton, Tennessee became the first courtroom drama broadcast live on radio. In music, Louis Armstrong was reshaping jazz with his Hot Five recordings, and Bessie Smith was the Empress of the Blues.
